Report: It’s cheaper to raze Colrain buildings

COLRAIN — A court-ordered report says that three condemned buildings in Colrain center have deteriorated to the point where it would be cheaper and advisable to demolish and replace them with new structures than to renovate.
The architectural/engineering report was ordered by state Housing Court Justice Robert Fields, to help him resolve a 20-year dispute between the Board of Health and property owner Paul Giard.
The health board and selectmen plan to discuss the report at a joint meeting next month.
The Board of Health is seeking court approval to demolish Giard’s condemned properties at 1 Main Road (known as the Tin Shop), 4 Jacksonville Road (called “the Truck Stop”) and a home at 3 Church St.
