GREENFIELD — The New York man who bought the former Abercrombie building on Bank Row in 2008 has purchased the small piece of land next door in hopes that it may someday become a walkway to the building, a parking lot with limited parking or maybe something else, he said.
Bradley McCallum of Studio Junction LLC of Brooklyn, who purchased the approximately 12,000 square feet of land from the town for $24,800, is also beginning to explore more aggressively how the adjacent building might be redeveloped. He paid $120,000 for the building.
“We want to hold a public forum in the near future to talk about potential uses,” said McCallum. “I’ll also be working with the Greenfield Business Association and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce to brainstorm about potential uses.”
McCallum said he’d like to see the building become part of the town’s “creative economy,” meaning there could be artist studios there, a culinary school, an extended-stay bed and breakfast for artists who want to retreat to Greenfield or some similar use.
“Before we make any decisions, we want to let the community have its say,” said McCallum. “It’s a cornerstone building and we’re open to all possibilities.”
