Police officer headed back to schools

GREENFIELD — There will once again be a police officer keeping an eye on Greenfield schools, and this time a bloodhound will accompany him.
Greenfield Police K-9 officer Richard Brook, who has been with the local department for the past 15 years, will work within the schools, mostly the high school, beginning Feb. 13. His 3-year-old police dog Daisy will join him.
Mayor William Martin, who took part in the decision to place Brook there, said it was not because the schools are having problems, but rather that the town wants to prevent any problems.
The schools have not had what the town calls a “resource officer” since summer 2010, said Martin.
