What a week for Franklin County Technical School wrestling.

On Wednesday, the Eagles won the regular-season Suburban League title. Then, on Sunday morning, a pair of Eagles learned they had received top seeds for this weekend’s WMass Division III Tournament at Taconic High School in Pittsfield.

This is the first year that Mahar Regional School and Athol High School are no longer taking part in the WMass championships, as both schools are now in the Central Mass. Division III field. Seeds for that come out Thursday for the Saturday tourney. The WMass tournament begins on Friday.

Eleven Eagles were seeded, the most of any local squad. Spencer Telega earned the No. 1 seed at 152 pounds and is the only local wrestler in that field, while Chris Ludwig picked up the top seed at 182 pounds to lead a field that includes two other locals. Ludwig is joined at weight by Frontier Regional School’s Joey Hildreth, who earned the third seed, and Mohawk Trail Regional High School’s Gabe Bower, who picked up No. 5.

Four local wrestlers pick up No. 2 seeds, including Franklin Tech’s pair of Kyle Brunelle at 126 pounds and Jaden Sadlowski at 132. Both are the only locals at those weights.

He will be joined at 160 by Franklin Tech’s Tim Fritz. Frontier’s Jackie Phong is the second seed at 285, and led Frontier in the rankings. The Red Hawks saw nine wrestlers earn seeds for the tournament.

Tech’s Aydyn Stacy earned the third seed at 195 and will join Frontier’s Nate Austin (fourth), while Franklin Tech’s Walker Picard was No. 3.
