Special town meeting set for Buckland

BUCKLAND — The need for playground money for the Buckland Recreation Area and engineering services at the Shelburne Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility have resulted in a special town meeting, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.

There are three articles on the warrant. The first article may be passed over if a negotiated sum is not reached. The first article asks voters to approve paying for engineering/design services for a town highway garage.

The second article requests $50,000 in grant funds and town money to build a playground at the Buckland Recreation Area, which will be managed by the Recreation Committee.

The third article is for about $25,000 to pay for the town’s share of engineering services for an infiltration/inflow study for the Shelburne Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is shared between village residents of Buckland and Shelburne. Shelburne is also to pay about $25,000. This study was mandated by the state after both towns had adopted fiscal year budgets that did not include this expenditure for sewer-users.
