SOUTH DEERFIELD — One person was taken to Baystate Health in Springfield with serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash on South Mill River Road near Route 116 Thursday afternoon.

The accident around 3:30 p.m., involved a red school bus van with the car. The front of the van burst into flames momentarily, before first responders put out the fire, said a Deerfield Police officer at the scene. Deerfield Police declined to provide any further comments about the accident, saying additional information would be provided by public relations officer Adam Sokolowiski, per department protocol.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital.

Deerfield Police, South Deerfield Fire and South County EMS responded to the crash. Whately Police assisted with traffic, was rerouted for a period of time.
