NORTHAMPTON — Running backs Bailey Young and Spencer Telega ran for 127 yards each, and the Franklin County Technical School backfield tandem combined for three touchdowns as the visiting Eagles beat Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School, 44-14, in an assigned football game Friday night.

Young finished with 14 carries for 127 yards and two touchdowns, while Telega had his 127 yards on 20 carries and added a touchdown of his own. The team leaned heavily on its tailbacks, not attempting a single pass in the win.

Smith Voke (3-6) fell behind very early and couldn’t get anything going against a stout FC Tech defense that eventually took its foot off the pedal toward the end of the game.

FC Tech (5-4) scored its first touchdown at 5:15 of the first quarter on a 1-yard plunge by Young.

The Eagles later made it 16-0 just before the end of the first quarter, and they scored again to make it 22-0 with 4:50 left in the first half.

They closed out the first-half scoring about three minutes later, taking a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Smith Voke tried to catch the Eagles off guard at the beginning of the second half with an onside kick, but Tech managed to recover. The Eagles took just 45 seconds to take advantage, scoring again to make it a 36-0 lead.

They scored one more time from there, as quarterback Seth Aldrich ran one in himself to extend the advantage to 44-0 with 3:06 left in the third quarter.

Smith Voke got on the board late with two touchdowns, the second coming on a 51-yard touchdown pass by senior quarterback Jacob Erali.

But the FC Tech lead proved insurmountable, and any hope of a comeback was unrealistic in the 44-14 final.
