Full-day Preschool Openings: The Y has a few mid-year openings for its full-day preschool. There are two classrooms; one for 3 to 4 year olds and another for 4 to 5 year olds. There are two, three and five day options available. The students get to use the gym, pool and gymnastics center for weekly P.E. options. Call Lisa at 773-3646, ext. 431, to schedule a tour.

Grandparent/Grandchild Week: Dec. 5 to 9 the Y is providing a free opportunity for grandparents to bring their grandchildren to try any of the gym or pool parent/child classes. The instructors lead the group through a series of age appropriate activities that build gross motor skills as well as improve coordination and strength. There are four parent/child gym classes: Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. Parent child water classes are Tuesdays at 4:45 p.m., Thursdays at 11 a.m., Fridays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays at noon. Youth Basketball Skills: The Y offers three basketball skills classes on Saturday mornings for boys and girls. 9 a.m. class for 4 to 5 year olds, 10 a.m. class for 6 to 8 year olds, and 11 a.m. class for 9 to 12 year olds. Classes are taught by Rob Dichard, the Y’s youth sports coordinator. Each class works on age-appropriate basketball skills with a focus on progressive fundamentals. Fees for eight classes are $45 for Y members, $55 for program associates.

Prescribe the Y Program: This program is a 12-week, doctor referred wellness program that helps hundreds of Franklin County people get healthier each year. The fee for twelve weeks of care is $129. Diabetes Care Program: A comprehensive diet, exercise and education program for people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Many type 2 diabetics can reduce the amount of medication they need to take through exercise and diet. For more information, call Dawn at 773-3646, ext. 428. The program consists of three basic small group exercise classes per week, weekly weigh-ins, initial body measurements, food journaling and healthy eating presentations. Held in the private Fit Life Center. This program is free for Y facility members, $99 for eight weeks for program associates and non-members. Financial aid is available and can cover up to 70 percent of the membership fee. This is a United Way of Franklin County supported program.
