Writers’ Lunch: Monday through Thursday from noon to 2 p.m., the library’s LeVanway Room is open for Writers’ Lunch, a self-directed free writing time open to any writer who is looking for a place to work. Bring your own lunch and beverage and stop in for all or part of the Writers’ Lunch.

Open for Business: Telecommuters, local business people, and all others who are looking for reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace are invited to use the library’s Greenfield Meeting Room on Monday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Mother Goose on the Loose: JoinKay Lyons on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under (with a grown-up) at the library. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time.

Chess Club: Meet with other chess players, hone your skills, and have fun every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the library. Contact calderrossi@gmail.com with any questions. The last Wednesday of each month features a speed chess tournament.

Memoir: Telling Your Story: Mary Clare Powell leads the second session of an 8-week memoir-writing workshop at the Greenfield Public Library on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Greenfield Meeting Room. The program explores memoir in a variety of forms using exercises to help spark memories and encourage writers to experiment. Writers at all levels of experience are welcome.

Writers’ Lunch Workshop: Join Joannah Whitney every Friday from noon to 2 p.m. to participate in writing exercises, discussion, and an opportunity to share what you've written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. Call 413-772-1544 for more details.

Friends of the GPL Book Sale: Over 11,000 books at incredible bargain prices will be featured at our Book Sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Help clear our overloaded shelves and get great bargains for your own reading pleasure and for gifts. Proceeds support library programs offered free to the public.

Friends of GPL Raffle: Win our Fall Raffle and take home Leslie Cook’s “Pioneer Valley Sampler” quilt or a $500 gift certificate towards an iPad from Brown Computer Solutions of Brattleboro, Vt. Tickets, 1 for $5 and 3 for $10, are available now at the library, at the Franklin County Fair in the Round House on Sept. 7-10, the Deerfield Art and Craft Fair on Sept. 23-24, and at Foster’s Supermarket on Oct. 6. Winning tickets will be drawn on October 28 at the library.
