CHARLEMONT — It was quite a day for the Mohawk Trail Regional High School girls’ downhill ski team.

The Warriors won the team slalom event but stumbled a bit in the giant slalom. Still, it was plenty for the program to take third place at Tuesday’s All-State Ski Meet at Berkshire East Ski Resort. Mohawk finished with a score of 116.58 seconds in the slalom, then finished with a team score of 136.21 in the giant slalom to account for a combined time of 252.79.

“I was excited,” Mohawk freshman Taylor Loomis said of hearing about the third-place team finish. “Our team was doing well, but we fell apart a little bit in the giant slalom, so I wasn’t expecting to do as well.”

Hingham High School won the girls’ team title, while Marblehead High School finished second.

The girls opened the day in the slalom and Mohawk got great runs from its freshmen duo of Ashley LaCross and Loomis. LaCross, the PVIAC Individual champion, raced through the course in 36.70 seconds to place third among individuals. Loomis was right behind her in sixth-place with a time of 38.13.

“I wasn’t expecting to do as well as I did,” Loomis said. “My goal was to break the top 20 and beat my bib number, which was 25. I did that by a lot. I was kind of like, ‘How did that happen?’”

The third Mohawk individual to score in the slalom was junior Erin Laffond, who finished 40th in the slalom at 41.75.

The afternoon session sent the girls to the giant slalom. Loomis said that the snow was a bit soft on the course, which made things a bit tricky.

“If you got caught in it, it pulled you away,” she said.

Loomis led Mohawk in the GS with a 23rd-place time of 43.37. LaCross was next with a 57th-place time of 45.97, and senior Lizzie Herzig was the third-scorer for Mohawk with her 68th-place time of 46.87.

Frontier Regional School’s Corriann Delaney had a nice day, taking 23rd in the slalom in 40.08, and followed that up with an 11th-place finish in the giant slalom at 42.33. Teammate Anna Zera finished 105th in the slalom (48.63), and 82nd in the giant slalom (47.84).

On the boys’ side, Mohawk’s Dan White did not finish the giant slalom but skied to a 46th-place finish in the slalom with a time of 42.11. Teammate Bennett Boucias finished 63rd in the giant slalom (42.18) and 82nd in the slalom (45.72).
