Five goal-scorers helped Greenfield High School beat Drury High School, 5-1, in a Wright Division hockey game Sunday evening at Veterans Rink in North Adams.

The Green Wave (12-4-2) overcame a slow start by scoring twice in the final minutes of the first period to take control of the game. The only blemish against Green Wave goalie Riley Drew came midway through the third period when the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty shot after a Wave player was called for covering the puck in the crease. Hoby MacWhinnie potted the attempt to prevent Drew from getting the shutout.

“It was a hard-fought game,” Greenfield coach Adam Bouchard said. “We started playing our game at the end of the first period and we finished the game hard. Our team defense was great tonight.”

Greenfield got on the board with 3 minutes, 4 seconds left in the first period as Doug Hanieski scored from Bryan Baumann. Six seconds after that, Evan Simmons scored an unassisted goal to put the Wave up 2-0 after the first period.

Cassidhe Wozniak scored the lone goal of the second period on the power play on an assist from Hanieski. Greenfield then took a 4-0 lead in the third period when Sean O’Sullivan stole the puck from a Drury defender behind the net and wrapped it around for an unassisted marker. After MacWhinnie’s penalty shot goal made it 4-1, Mason Whiteman put the Wave back up by four goals when he scored on assists from Aurel Pydych and Bryce Jordan.

Drew finished with 20 saves, six fewer than losing goalie Corey Callander.

Greenfield hosts Belchertown High School Thursday at 4:30.
