GREENFIELD — After a bomb threat was reported at Big Y Market on Sunday afternoon, police and fire departments searched the store and determined there was no active threat.

Sgt. Todd Dodge of the Greenfield Police Department said the call came in around 2:15 p.m. when someone reported graffiti written on a restroom stall that said the words “bomb” and “store” as well as Sunday’s date.

Dodge said the store’s management made the decision to evacuate all employees and shoppers.

According to Dodge, the Greenfield Fire Department made the initial search of the building, and did not find anything out of place. Shortly after, the Massachusetts State Police bomb unit arrived and the department’s bomb sniffing dog then searched the building and found nothing. Dodge said the investigation is ongoing.

The store was closed for about an hour and a half, before police determined there was no threat and people were let back in around 4 p.m.

Big Y management for the Greenfield location declined to comment on the incident.
