Police Logs, Oct. 4 to 15, 2017

Greenfield, Oct. 4

5:04 a.m. — A vehicle rolled over on Route 2, heading southbound, down the hill, just before Longview Tower on the side of the road. The vehicle struck the shoulder, causing it to “ricochet” until hitting the north side guard rail and sending it over the embankment, according to the police log. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle, but was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center. 

3:20 p.m. — Disturbance at Veteran’s Memorial Mall between person and skateboarders who were said to be skating on the benches. Skaters were gone when police arrived.

6:38 p.m. — Verbal disturbance among six or so people on Wildwood Avenue. Peach restored.

7:34 p.m. — Hit and run reported at Federal and Main streets. Caller says his 2011 Toyota Prius was struck by a Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania plates, as the Nissan driver attempted to make a lane change. The driver did not stop, caller had the license plate number. Greenfield Police traced plate and called Philadelphia police, asking them to contact the driver’s family.

Greenfield, Oct. 5

5:15 a.m. — Motorcycle accident near Friendly’s on Mohawk Trail. Injury sustained to driver’s toe; ambulance transport refused.

12:14 p.m. — Shoplifting reported at Big Y Plaza. Blond-haired woman seen putting a sandwich into bag without paying, then fled on foot. She was followed by store management and put sandwich down in bushes.

Greenfield, Oct. 7

12:20 a.m. — An employee at the Circle K gas station on Mohawk Trail, reported a silver or gray sedan backed into him when he was trying to get her license plate number after an altercation in the store. Police are collecting statements and waiting for video footage.

Greenfield, Oct. 8

6:43 p.m. — Police arrested a 16-year-old on charges of assault and battery and intimidation to a witness, following a report from Victory House on Conway Street that a staff member was bleeding from the head. MedCare responded to the scene. Police also assisted with looking for missing minors.

Greenfield, Oct. 11

6:15 a.m. — Police received a report of a male from a few houses down, near the School Street apartments, trying to run over a woman’s boyfriend and also threatened to shoot them. Police did not find proof of the allegations, but learned that there was a dispute over money owed between the groups. 

7:54 a.m. — A male was reported to have been storing personal property on the grounds of the McCarthy Funeral Home. 

7:13 p.m. — Report of UHaul trailer with open rear doors spilled debris on Interstate 91/Mohawk Trail rotary. Rental trailer’s doors opened accidentally and debris fell into roadway. State DPW and owner of contents returned to clear debris. A rifle, originally believed to have fallen out of trailer was found still inside.

Montague, Oct. 11

8:23 a.m. — Report that a motorist struck a cat near the ball fields on Montague Street. Motorist was standing in the road, trying to keep other vehicles from hitting animal, while caller pulled over with blinkers on, to slow traffic. Officer sent.

6:08 p.m. — Woods Road caller reports two trespassers are on property, refusing to leave. Police investigated, advised trespassers are leaving.

8:58 p.m. — Report of loud teenagers skateboarding in Third Street/Fourth Street alleys. Officer warned them to quiet down. At 9:35 p.m., officer returns on report that kids are having trouble with someone in area. Ryan Trenholm, 33, of Greenfield is arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, subsequent offense; and on a charge of resisting arrest.

9:36 p.m. — Report of bonfire in Peskeomskut Park with five to six people involved. Turners Falls Fire Department called. Fire was in a barbecue area, people cleaned up their things.

Greenfield, Oct. 12

7:42 a.m. — Home Depot parking area, unsecured load on a GMC truck damaged windshield of a BMV car; no injuries. Drivers exchanged information.

8:44 a.m. — Caller reports man leaving harassing phone messages at wife’s workplace and wants them to stop. Assistance provided.

9:04 a.m. — Report of teenage girl trying to hitchhike on Bernardston Road, near Interstate 91. Female, probably in 20s, refused to speak with police. Was seen getting into a vehicle and heading north.

9:35 a.m. — Traffic stop on Main Street near Veterans Memorial Mall. Corey D. Melanson, 41, of Orange, was arrested on a warrant and on charges of improper turning and driving after license was revoked.

Greenfield, Oct. 13

3:18 p.m. — A hit-and-run accident occurred near the intersection of Pierce and Davis streets when a bicyclist was knocked off his bicycle by a passing maroon Subaru Outback with a male driver. The bicyclist did not require medical attention.

4:51 p.m. — A caller reported several youths on the roof of either the corner building or the next one down on Bank Row, and was concerned for their safety. Police located, identified and moved along the three males in question.

Greenfield, Oct. 14

9:24 a.m. — An officer moved along two individuals who were camping on the back steps of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association building on Miles Street.

Greenfield, Oct. 15

1:39 p.m. — A woman reportedly overdosed while inside the Franklin Recovery Center on Federal Street. She was found on the floor “just inside (the) door.”

4:13 p.m. — John P. Knight, 46, of Chapman Court, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, possession of a Class A drug and driving with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender. Police stopped Knight near the Sandri Stopmart on Federal Street after seeing a male in a Tom Brady jersey fall asleep twice while driving on Silver Street.
