NORTHFIELD — The Pioneer Valley Regional School District central office staff can expect to see a new face next month.

The School Committee voted Thursday to hire Tanya Gaylord of Spofford, N.H., as the new treasurer, replacing Kelly Jones, who Superintendent Ruth Miller said will be leaving at the end of December.

Miller said her former colleagues in the Narragansett Regional School District recommended Gaylord. Until October, Gaylord was the town accountant in Ashburnham, a position she held for five years. Gaylord said she worked closely with the school superintendent, exposing her to the structure of regional and private school finance as well as town finance.

Gaylord’s other experience includes being a staff accountant for C&S Wholesale Grocers in Keene, N.H., a senior accountant at Wardlow & Cash, P.A. in Inverness, Fla., and filling in as a part-time town accountant in Ashby. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in accounting and owns her own part-time business, Gaylord Accounting Services.

The School Committee voted to pay Gaylord “consistent with the budgeted amount.” The amount budgeted for the treasurer’s salary in the fiscal year 2018 budget is $11,220. Like Jones, the committee agreed Gaylord will work one eight-hour day per week.

Gaylord told the School Committee she hopes to work with Miller to provide committee members with telling financial data in a readable format, which has been a struggle for the district.
