It was a good Saturday night for a pair of Franklin County athletes at the 2024 PVIAC Indoor Track Championships.

Pioneer’s Louise Flagollet and Mohawk Trail’s Chay Mojallali captured individual high jump titles at Smith College in Northampton.

Flagollet had a top leap of 5 feet even in the girls’ high jump, tying for the best mark with Northampton’s Eleanor Lewis. With neither Flagollet or Lewis able to clear 5-2, Flagollet was declared the winner as the first tiebreaker is the fewest number of attempts at the last cleared height. Flagollet got over the 5-foot mark on her first attempt, while Lewis missed once at 5-0 before clearing the height on her second attempt.

The freshman added a ninth-place finish in the 300 meters (44.37). As the lone placer on the day for the Panthers, she helped the Pioneer girls earn a 15th-place place team finish. Frontier took 13th, Mohawk Trail came in 18th while Mahar took 22nd. 

Mojallali cleared 6-2 to capture the title in the boys’ high jump, two inches higher than runner-up Hunter Corthell of Minnechaug.

His title helped Mohawk Trail achieve a 14th place team finish. Frontier came in 15th, Greenfield took 16th and Mahar came in 18th.

Qualifiers from the local teams will next compete in the MIAA Division 5 Indoor Track Championships, slated for Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Here’s a breakdown of the individual placers from each team on Saturday night: 

Frontier

Leah Gump was the top placer for the Redhawk girls, taking fourth in the 2 mile (12 minutes, 47.14 seconds). Liv Christensen placed 12th (14:18.06) in the event. 

Hannah Davis came in sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.45 seconds), Nicole Plasse earned ninth in the 600 (1:50.76), Addison Morrey took sixth in the 1,000 (3:32.42) while Phoebe Radner took 12th (3:40.42). In the mile Morrey placed ninth (5:53.61) while Kali Beam took 16th (6:16.70) and in the shot put, Lilly Novak placed 10th (28-3.25), Micky McCarthy came in 12th (27-2.5) and Abbigayle Grover placed 13th (26-9). 

The Frontier girls placed sixth in the 4x400 relay (4.29.89), 11th in the 4x200 (1:58.10) and eighth in the 4x800 (11:30.83), 

On the boys’ side, Aidan Valderrama walked away with a fifth place finish in the high jump (5-8) and also came in 14th in the 600 (1:37.13). Amory Maxey placed 12th in the 1,000 (2:51.39), Charles Dennis took 10th in the mile (4:52.93). 

The Frontier boys took third in the 4x800 relay (8:59.62), 15th in the 4x200 (1:43.41) and 14th in the 4x400 (4:03.51). 

Greenfield

The Green Wave boys were led by Jackson Caron, who placed fifth in the mile (4:45.64) and sixth in the 1,000 meters (2:47.06). Mason Youmell took eighth in the 55 hurdles (12.9) and 19th in the 600 (1:42.76) while Jerry Ven earned eighth in the shot put (38-0.75). 

On the girls’ side, Suhani Patel placed ninth in the high jump (4-8). 

Mahar

Mitchell Krasco earned a pair of top 10 finishes on the boys’ side for the Sens, taking fifth in the 55 hurdles (8.33) and eighth in the 300 (38.22). The junior also took 14th in the long jump (18-1). 

Mathieu Soucy placed 14th in the 300 (39.04). The Mahar boys placed 13th in the 4x800 relay (10:05.47). 

On the girls’ side, Stellina Moore took seventh in the high jump (4-8) and 10th in the long jump (14-5.75). Madilyn Moore placed 14th in the shot put (26-7.5). 

Mohawk Trail 

Freshman Virginia Krezmien had a strong showing in the girls’ 1 mile, placing third overall as the top finisher for her side (5:36.27). 

Peter Healy came in 13th in the boys’ 2 mile (11:09.76). The Mohawk Trail boys took 15th in the 4x800 relay (10:16.39). 

Pioneer

The Panthers walked away with a 14th place finish in the boys’ 4x800 (10:16.39) while the Pioneer girls placed eighth in the 4x400 (4:37.91). 

In addition to Flagollet’s big day, junior Sahana Heilman cracked the top 10 for Pioneer with a strong ninth-place performance in the 55-meter hurdles (9.86). Freshman Emmanuelle Flagollet wasn’t far behind in 15th for the Panthers, posting a time of 10.24 seconds.
