1794 Meetinghouse to present The Jolly Beggars, Jenny Burtis

NEW SALEM — The 1794 Meetinghouse plans to present The Jolly Beggars on Aug. 25 and Jenny Burtis on Aug. 26.

The Jolly Beggars, based in Connecticut, specialize in lively, uplifting Celtic folk music. The group is made up of Jeff Desrosier on mandolin and guitar, Chris Vece on whistles, Dave Uhl on bass, and Greg Wilfrid on guitar, banjo and mandolin. All members also sing.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for those 13 to 17 years old. Anyone 12 and younger are free. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Jenny Burtis is a singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist who crafts songs of truth, loss and redemption. She weaves classical music influences into her songwriting, favoring the Romantic tradition, and has been influenced by a variety of singer songwriters, including Jane Siberry, Shawn Colvin, and Olivia Chaney. She just finished recording her first album, “Woodbird,” which includes her band as well as other local musicians, including singer-songwriter Lui Collins, saxophonist Rick Page, dobro player Charlie Conant, and multi-instrumentalist Dom Lewis.

John Koehler on electric bass and Geoff Rice on lead guitar will play alongside Burtis. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for those 13 to 17 years old. Anyone 12 and younger are free.

Tickets to shows are available online at https://1794meetinghouse.org/ or at the door. The 1794 Meetinghouse is at 26 South Main St. in New Salem.

New Salem Academy reunion coming up

NEW SALEM – An all-school reunion for New Salem Academy is scheduled for the American Legion at 40 Daniel Shays Highway in Orange on Sept. 9.

Everyone pays $20 per ticket at the door but a head count is required by Sept. 1 to accommodate the caterer. Call 413-422-2749 for reservations. The reunion will last from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
