Selectman to speak at community lunch

LEYDEN — This month’s community lunch at Leyden Town Hall, to be held Wednesday, May 8, will include a talk by Selectboard member Glenn Caffery.

Caffery, who has covered thousands of miles running long distances throughout his life, will present “Running Too Much: Three Ultrarunning Stories and Finding Meaning in Unreasonable Distances” starting at 11 a.m.

Lunch, which will consist of chili, macaroni and cheese, salad, garlic knots and cookies, will begin at noon.

Reservations are encouraged. To reserve a meal, call Linda Allis 413-834-4417. To-go meals and delivery are also available with advance registration.

Author Diana Renn coming to library

NORTHFIELD — Meet author Diana Renn at Dickinson Memorial Library on Friday, May 10, from 4 to 5 p.m.

As part of the Mass Kids Lit Fest sponsored by the Massachusetts Center for the Book, Renn will discuss her eco-mystery children’s chapter book, “Trouble at Turtle Pond,” which celebrates citizen science, activist kids and the power of paying attention. Renn will discuss how her real-life work as a community scientist and volunteer working with turtle hatchlings inspired the novel.

Mindfulness sessions continue through May 23

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library welcomes mindfulness instructor Jeannette Eaton on Thursdays, May 9, 16 and 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. Attendees will allow space to pause, observe their minds, slow their breathing and calm their bodies while learning to embrace the present moment and treat themselves with more kindness. No registration is necessary.

Eli Elkus performance paired with Evening Cafe

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host an Evening Cafe and a performance by musical storyteller Eli Elkus on Monday, May 13.

Music begins at 3 p.m. and the meal is served at 4 p.m. The menu consists of American chop suey, a Tuscany vegetable blend and dinner rolls. A donation of $3.50 is suggested. Elkus’ performance is also offered on Zoom.

Two Happy Feet walks planned for May

NORTHFIELD — The Happy Feet walking group will meet at the Northfield Senior Center on Monday, May 13, at 11:30 a.m. to walk along Main Street. Dogs on leashes are welcome.

A second walk is planned on Monday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. Participants will leave from the Senior Center, meet the Northfield Elementary School kindergarten class and then head back to Town Hall for an intergenerational performance by folk singer and storyteller Tim Van Egmond. Parents/guardians and siblings are welcome.
