MIAA reveals first spring power rankings

The first batch of spring power rankings was released by the MIAA on Friday.
The top of the Div. 5 softball field is littered with Recorder Area teams. Greenfield (6-2) — the defending Div. 5 champions — sit at No. 2 in the rankings. Turners (5-4) comes in at No. 14 while Franklin Tech (7-1) sits at No. 16.
Frontier (5-6) and Mohawk Trail (4-6) would have automatic bids to the tournament if the season ended Friday, with the top 32 teams in each division receiving a spot as well as any team that finishes with a record at or above .500. All records listed are what the MIAA used for the rankings.
Pioneer (2-5) sits at No. 36 in the rankings followed by Athol (2-6) at No. 43 and Mahar (0-7) at No. 41.
In the Div. 5 baseball field, Pioneer (8-0), who made a run to the final four last year, comes in at No. 16. Frontier (9-3) isn't far behind, coming in at No. 22.
Greenfield (6-4) is just outside the top 32, coming in at No. 33. Franklin Tech (3-5) is ranked No. 48, Mahar (3-4) sits at No. 55, Turners (2-5) comes in at No. 60, Athol (1-9) is ranked No. 66 and Mohawk Trail (0-7) has the No. 69 ranking.
In just the second year of the program, the Frontier boys volleyball team’s 10-1 start to the season earned it the No. 11 ranking in the Div. 2 field. Athol (0-10) is ranked No. 34.
In the boys Div. 2 tennis field Frontier (5-1) is ranked No. 38 while Turners (0-6) is ranked No. 49. In the Div. 4 girls tennis field Frontier (7-1) is the top ranked Recorder Area school, sitting at No. 45. Greenfield (4-2) comes in at No. 49, Mohawk Trail (1-4) sits at No. 55 and Turners (3-5) is ranked No. 59.
