Paul Newlin, thank you

Sunday, June 18, 2017

I have served on the Whately Board of Selectmen for 13 years, and today I want to take the opportunity to thank someone I have served with and learned from for 12 of those years. Recently it was election day in Whately and one of my colleagues, who I served with for 12 of my 13 years and who chose not to run for re-election, was not on the ballot. So today is the first day in more than a decade that I don’t have the opportunity to serve with Paul Newlin.

Over the past dozen years, Paul has served the Town of Whately as a selectboard member with grace, dignity and never-ending thoughtfulness. We can all learn a great deal from Paul on how to see both sides of an issue, work with everyone regardless of their policy perspective and find common ground without giving up personal convictions. I know that Whately residents will continue to see Paul in and around town and he will continue to give his best for the strength and greatness of our town and larger region.

But for now, I personally want to say thank you to Paul for serving Whately and for being a great colleague for a dozen years.
