Thanks to those who make Memorial Day happen

Wednesday, June 07, 2017

“Outstanding” is the word for those veterans who rode or marched in the Greenfield Memorial Day parade. Also a salute to all who took part in the parade: some of, but not all, were Mayor Martin and Tim Niejadlik, veterans’ agent, for coordinating the parade agenda, Greenfield High and Middle School bands, the Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts, the Greenfield Police Department, for transporting veterans. The Elks Club and Moose Club for breakfast and refreshments.

I also want to thank all who lined the streets to pay tribute to those veterans about whom every Memorial Day is about, and “The Veteran,” a poem that Vassar’s Automotive places in The Greenfield Recorder, which says it all. “It is the military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag.”
