ORANGE — An Orange man faces charges after allegedly trapping his girlfriend in the bedroom of the residence they shared and threatening to hurt her.

Devin M. Hurlburt, 24, pleaded not guilty in Orange District Court on Friday to charges of assault and battery on a family or household member, kidnapping, and threatening to commit a crime. He was held on $500 cash bail or $5,000 surety.

According to Orange Police Officer Michael LaPointe, a woman told him on June 8 that Hurlburt had earlier that day told her to go into the bedroom so they could talk, only to close the door and barricade it with a small ladder.

The woman said she began to look for clothes so she could leave and Hurlburt told her to stop or he would “knock her jaw three spaces to the left,” according to police, who allege that Hurlburt then broke the bedroom door with his head and pushed the woman out of the room once the door was open.

Hurlburt has a pretrial conference scheduled for July 1.
