DEERFIELD — Zachary Marron, 25, of Woodridge, Ill. was arrested for unlawful firearms possession as a result of a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

According to a post on the Deerfield Police Department’s Facebook page, Deerfield Police Officer Tyler Hersom noticed a vehicle with defective lighting traveling on Greenfield Road at around 2 a.m. The vehicle’s registration was also expired.

Given the expired registration and lighting issue, Hersom explained to Marron that the vehicle would be towed and asked if there were weapons or anything of value in the vehicle. According to the post, Marron admitted he had a Glock handgun hidden under the driver’s seat.

Marron didn’t possess a Massachusetts firearms permit, the post reads. Upon contacting the Woodridge Police Department in Illinois, Hersom learned that if Marron “was found with this firearm in their community, he would be in violation of the law and arrested.”

Though the post did not include Marron’s name, Deerfield Police Patrolman Adam Sokoloski confirmed his identity and explained Marron was not licensed to carry a handgun in his home state either.

According to the post, Marron was arrested and will appear in Greenfield District Court.
