High schools: Skyler Steele powers Frontier softball past Wahconah

It was a birthday to remember for Skyler Steele.

The Frontier slugger smacked a home run and drove in five runs as the Redhawks cruised to a 15-3 victory over Wahconah in a Franklin County League West contest on Monday at Zabek Field in South Deerfield.

Steele also had a single in the win for Frontier, which received a walk-off single from Olivia Machon in the sixth inning to secure the run-ruled victory. 

Raine Wonsey gave up just four hits and four walks over six innings to earn the win. Ashley Taylor, Delaney Fifield, Machon, Sophia Pinardi, Hailey Hutkoski and Adelaide Ehle had multiple hits as part of an 18-hit Hawks attack. 

Frontier stays home to host Pioneer on Wednesday. 

Franklin Tech 22, Mahar 3 (5) – Kylee Gamache roped a three-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the second inning as the visiting Eagles pushed 13 runs across in the frame en route to the Franklin County League East win in Orange.

Gianna DiSciullo (three RBIs) and Kaitlin Trudeau (2B, 3B, RBI) were both 3-for-3 to aid the Franklin Tech offensive effort. Lilly Ross had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles, and Kyra Goodell also knocked two hits.

Brayleigh Burgh struck out 10 and allowed two hits in a five-inning complete game for Tech.

Greenfield 119, Pioneer 25 — Jackson Caron won the mile (4 minutes, 44.2 second)s, 2 mile (11:04), the 800 (2:18.9) and the pole vault (8 feet) for the Green Wave, which defeated the visiting Panthers on Monday in Greenfield. 

Other Greenfield winners were Jack Laurie in the 100 (12.0) and 200 (24.4), Krish Patel in the 400 (59.6) and the high jump (5:08), Mason Youmell in the 110 hurdles (16.7), triple jump (36-1.5) and 400 hurdles (1:08.1) and Jerry Ven in the javelin (94-4), discus (94-3) and shot put (39-3.5).

Greenfield won the 4x100 (48.1) and 4x400 (4:03.3) relays. 

Carter Berthiaume won the long jump (17-9) for Pioneer. 

Frontier 100, Mahar 45 — Evan Hedlund set the Redhawk school record in the 2 mile (9:57.8) while Alex Schreiber won the shot put (34-9.5) and the discus (118-10) in Frontier’s victory over the Senators in South Deerfield Monday. 

Other Redhawk winners were Aiden Dredge in the javelin (140-3), Aidan Valderrama in the high jump (5-10) and 800 (2:11.5), Adrien Pazmandy in the pole vault (10-6), Ben Cachiguango in the 110 hurdles (15.5) and 200 (23.3), Amory Maxey in the mile (5:02.4) and Gus Radner in the 400 (58.5). Frontier won the 4x100 (45.5) and 4x400 (4:00.8) relays. 

Girls track

Frontier 124, Mahar 21 — Lilly Novak won the shot (27-11.75), discus (91-0) and javelin (78-10) while Hannah Davis took the long jump (14-4.5), triple jump (30-1) and 100 hurdles (17.7) lifting the Redhawks past the Senators in South Deerfield Monday. 

Maia Christensen took the high jump (4-10), Leah Gump won the mile (5:49.6) and 2 mile (12:36.9), Rylan Waskiewicz took the 100 (13.2) and 200 (28.8), Maddie Antes won the 400 hurdles (75.1) while Nicole Plasse came in first in the 800 (2:40.8) for Frontier.

The Redhawks won the 4x100 (53.5) and 4x400 (4:34.1) relays. 

For Mahar, Stellina Moore won the pole vault (9-0) while Nevaeh Scribner took the 400 (63.3). 

Pioneer 86, Greenfield 46 — Louise Flagollet won the high jump (5-0), the 400 (67.2) and the 200 (28.9) while Sahana Heilman in the triple jump (31-11), 100 hurdles (17.2) and 800 (2:49.9), lifting the Panthers past the Green Wave on Monday in Greenfield. 

Other Pioneer winners were Natalie Rios in the long jump (15-3), 100 (14.2) and javelin (94-6), Anya Livingston in the shot put (20-0), Emmanuelle Flagollet in the 400 hurdles (74.0), Riley Thayer in the mile (6:41) and Lauren Kalinowski in the 2 mile. The Panthers also took the 4x100 (58.8) and 4x400 (4:51.7) relays. 

Girls tennis

Turners 3, PV Christian 2 – Olivia Walbech was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles for the Thunder, which also won both doubles matches to capture a team victory on Monday.

Allysia Corbin and Lydia MacMunn-Seaman snagged a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles while Turners’ second pairing of Khia Huertas and Gianna Marigliano were 6-0, 6-4 winners.

SICS 3, Frontier 2 – The Redhawks won both doubles matches but couldn’t find a singles victory on Monday.

Esther Ehle and Kayla Fagan were 6-1, 6-0 winners at No. 1 doubles for Frontier, and the second doubles pairing of Aylen Shaw and Araceli McCoy captured a 6-0, 6-3 win.

Hampden Charter East 3, Mohawk Trail 2 – The first doubles team of Ivan Hillenbrand and Eliza Crowell won a wild 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 match to help pace the Warriors in a tight loss on Monday.

Palmer King won at No. 1 singles, scoring a 6-1, 6-2 victory for Mohawk Trail.
