Turners Falls pitcher Joey Mosca did all he could to hold down a potent Pioneer lineup on Tuesday. 

Mosca gave up two runs in the first inning but settled in from there, not allowing a run the rest of the way while striking out six. 

The Turners bats were unable to solve Panthers pitching however, as Jackson Glazier, Evan Tsipenyuk and Hugh Cyhowski combined to give up just two hits. The Thunder got one run in the fifth but that was all Pioneer allowed, and the Panthers escaped with a 2-1 independent win in Northfield. 

Ben Werner singled to drive in a pair of runs for Pioneer in the first. Braeden Tsipenyuk cracked a pair of hits while Alex McClelland, Cyhowski and Jackson Campbell (2) also hit safely for the Panthers. 

Glazier tossed the opening three innings and struck out four, Evan Tsipenyuk struck out one in two innings before Cyhowski tossed the sixth and the seventh, didn’t allow a hit and struck out four. 

Kainen Stevens knocked a hit and drove in a run while Alex Quezada also tallied a hit for Turners. Mosca struck out four in the loss. 

Frontier 5, Hampshire 4 — Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Redhawks offense sprung to life on Tuesday.

Frontier scored four times in the inning, rallying past the Raiders for a 5-4 Suburban League West victory in South Deerfield.

Porter Hall and Wyatt Edes had two hits apiece to pace the Hawks, while Nico Fasulo and Jack Conlon added a hit and an RBI each. Tyler Cusson tossed all seven innings, striking out two and not walking a batter.

“Great win for us today,” Redhawks coach Chris Williams said. “It felt great to see our bats come alive for the first time this season. A lot of guys stepped up, the bottom of the order was putting the ball in play and Cusson was efficient on the hill. Our outfield continued to compete at an elite level.” 

Softball

Greenfield 13, Wahconah 0 (5) — MacKenzie Paulin didn’t give the Warriors much to work with at the plate, as the junior struck out 13 and scattered just three hits to help the Green Wave earn a Franklin County League West victory in Dalton on Tuesday. 

Gloria McDonald smashed a home run, a double, two singles to drive in three runs, Ellis Benitez tallied four hits and two RBIs while Grace Laurie recorded three hits and an RBI for Greenfield. 

Turners 11, Mount Greylock 5 — Madi Liimatainen struck out 16, scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run, helping lead the Thunder to a Franklin County League West triumph in Williamstown Tuesday. 

Turners led 10-1 going into the fifth inning. 

Liimatainen tallied three hits at the plate, Holly Myers singled and doubled, Ella Kolodziej and Autumn Thornton both cracked two hits while Madisyn Dietz hit safely in the win. 

Frontier 11, Taconic 2 — The Redhawks got back into the win column with a decisive road victory in Pittsfield on Tuesday.

Frontier improved to 2-3 on the season. Further details weren’t available at press time.

Boys volleyball

PV Christian 3, Athol 0 — The Eagles picked up a 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 victory over the Bears on Tuesday in Springfield. 

Boys tennis

Frontier 3, Turners 2 — Robert Fuqua earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while Frontier took both doubles matches to earn a victory over the Thunder in South Deerfield Tuesday. 

Oliver Brown and Donovan Vichi walked away with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in No. 1 doubles while Noah Nichols and Matt Sibley picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles for the Redhawks. 

Mike Boyle won in No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 while Khalifa Seck earned a 6-4, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles for Turners.
