GREENFIELD — A dangerousness hearing for the three men and one woman charged with breaking into a man’s house at 36 West St. Thursday morning and taking turns beating him is set for Tuesday, April 9, in Greenfield District Court.

Defendants Michael Burek, Bradley Trombley and Casey Guillemette, all from Greenfield, were arraigned in Greenfield District Court Friday afternoon on charges of home invasion, felony breaking and entering in the daytime, vandalizing property and armed assault within a dwelling.

As the three men stood before Judge William Mazanec III, prosecutors said the fourth alleged co-conspirator, Kortney Thurber, also from Greenfield, did not appear because she was in custody in Northampton for two separate arrest warrants discovered when she was arrested on Thursday.

According to police, the defendants, two of whom were in possession of knives when they were arrested, are believed to have known the property owner prior to the alleged assault. Police Chief Todd Dodge previously said the defendants yelled derogatory names and accusatory remarks at the homeowner during the alleged beating. The victim, he said, suffered significant injuries to his mouth and face, but declined medical treatment.

“When he went to his door, the door flew open and he immediately began to be assaulted by this group of four, at least one of whom had a knife [visible during the attack],” Dodge said following Thursday’s arrests. “They took turns beating up on him.”

Dodge said dispatchers received a call from a woman inside the home at approximately 10:35 a.m. Thursday, reporting there was a man inside the residence wielding a gun and a knife. The call was abruptly cut, and upon arrival, he said officers could not locate the woman.

Mark Bulver, who represented Trombley at the arraignment as bail-only counsel, said he believed the state will drop the defendants’ breaking and entering charges, as text messages between the property owner and the four alleged attackers that suggest he invited them to his house, are expected to arise as evidence in future hearings.

“Ultimately, this a drug case,” Bulver said. “It appears they were invited in, and I believe there are text messages to prove that.”
