Graphic Novel and Fan Fiction Club: 12 to 17 year-old fans of Graphic Novels and Fan Fiction Writers: What is your favorite? Manga? Superhero books? Classic Fiction? Nonfiction? Come to the GPL on Tuesday, July 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to share what you read and write.

Children’s Book Writers Group: A critique group for adults who write for children, facilitated by Nell Wright, meets in the LeVanway Room the third Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants discuss skills, share tips and opportunities for development, and read and discuss their stories.

Sunshine Story Time: On Wednesdays at 10 a.m. throughout the summer, visit our new story time specially designed for ages 3 to 5, featuring books, puppets, and rhythm instruments.

Family Night Wednesdays: Every Wednesday throughout the summer, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., families are welcome in the Children’s Room to participate in art, games, puzzles, building creations and more. Enjoy our air conditioning and some quality time together away from screens.

Take and Make Thursdays: All summer, Thursdays are craft days at the library. Visit the Children’s Room and take home the materials for a craft project or make it at the library when you come in to choose your books for summer reading.

PITI Theater Workshop: On Saturday, July 22, 10 a.m. to noon, the PITI Theatre Company for ages 8 to 12 will rehearse and perform the “Play in a Day” they created on July 15. All are welcome to the performance.

Thoreau Open Mic Night: Plan to attend the GPL celebration of Thoreau next Monday, July 24, at an open-mic night in the library’s LeVanway Meeting Room. Read your favorite passage from any one of Thoreau’s works!

Ongoing Programs

Writers’ Lunch: Every Monday through Thursday from noon to 2 p.m., the library’s LeVanway Room is open for Writers’ Lunch, a self-directed free writing time open to any writer who is looking for a place to work. Bring your own lunch and beverage and stop in for all or part of the Writers’ Lunch.

Open for Business: Telecommuters, local business people, and all others who are looking for reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace are invited to use the library’s Greenfield Meeting Room on Mondays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Join Kay Lyons on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under (with a grown-up) at the library. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about 15 minutes of visiting time.

Young Writers Group: Author and teacher Nell Wright will work with young writers ages 10 to 14 on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. The group is limited to 8 participants and advance registration is required. Call 413-772-1544, ext. 5 for more information.

Chess Club: Meet with other chess players, hone your skills, and have fun every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the library. Contact calderrossi@gmail.com with any questions. The last Wednesday of each month features a speed chess tournament.

Writers’ Lunch Workshop: Join Joannah Whitney every Friday from noon to 2 p.m. to participate in writing exercises, discussion, and an opportunity to share what you’ve written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. Call 413-772-1544 for more details.
