GREENFIELD — Lyman Griswold, a Greenfield comic, is taking his first shot at producing a comedy show on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Elks Lodge at 3 Church St.

Doors open at 7:15 p.m. The comedy show is free and open to the public.

By practicing at various open mics, including on Sundays at Bishop’s Lounge in Northampton and Wednesdays at the Irish Ale House in Springfield, Griswold has mustered up the courage to organize his own comedy show.

The event will have five local comics performing, all competing for the grand prize of $100. Griswold hopes to produce four comedy shows and build a repertoire of comedy sets to be shared online.

“If you give me 10 minutes, I will change your life,” he said.

Griswold noted he has constructed his comedy persona around heavy-handed political commentary. He hopes to use the stage to educate the public about American political issues and encourage residents to get out to vote in the next presidential election.
