SHELBURNE FALLS — After 25 years, the Young & Constantin Gallery at 4 Deerfield Ave. has closed and is making way for a new boutique store that will specialize in fashion and home accessories.

Owner and artist Kathleen Young has sold the gallery business to focus on her other work, which includes jewelry-making and running Deerfield Avenue Realty.

Young bought the 4 Deerfield Ave. building in 1992, and she and her late husband, Chris Constantin, moved their North River Glass business into the building. Visitors to Shelburne Falls could walk past the open doors in good weather, to watch the glass blowers at work, then go into the Young & Constantin gallery to buy handmade glass objects. At one point, Young also had galleries in Wilmington, Vt. and in Northampton.

Young said Joy Sullivan of Amherst has bought the business and plans to open her new shop in April. “She’s got a lot of retail experience,” said Young. “I expect it to be a smooth transition.”

Young will continue to own the building, which includes the restaurant “Baked.”
