Auditions for Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra: Wednesday and Nov. 1 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Auditions for woodwind,  brass, percussion and harp players. Free. Bement School, Routes 5 and 10, Deerfield, and Most Holy Redeemer Church 120 Russell St., Hadley. www.pvsoc.org

Berkshire Theatre Group auditions: Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. For its 12th annual production of “A Christmas Carol.” The Colonial Theatre, 111 South St., Pittsfield. The group seeks non-equity actors for the community production that will run Dec. 9 through 22 at The Colonial Theatre. Children ages 9 and older and adults to fill the roles. Up to 20 children will be cast. Rehearsals will begin Sunday, Nov. 12. They will be held after school, evenings and weekends. Rehearsals will be in Stockbridge. Attending all rehearsals is required. Those auditioning should prepare one short traditional Christmas carol to sing. All auditioners will be asked to read from the play. Auditions by appointment only. Scarecrows in the Park: Looking for people or groups to create ingenious scarecrows for the event on Oct. 21 and 22. Festival held in Cushman Park. Scarecrows must be in place by noon on Oct. 20. Judging happens soon after. There are several categories and participants can enter one scarecrow in as many categories as they would like. $5 per category. The funds raised during this event benefit the Bernardston Kiwanis Scholarship Fund. Registration forms are available at 7 South Bakery and Cushman Library in Bernardston.
