Bulletin Board: Multiple area athletes advance to Hoop Shoot states

The third round of the Elks Club of Massachusetts Hoop Shoot took place on Saturday at Franklin County’s YMCA in Greenfield, with the top performers around Western Mass. competing to advance to the Massachusetts State Hoop Shoot. 

On the girls side, Greenfield’s Savannah Thomas was the winner in the age nine group. Southwick’s Avery Boldyga won the age 10 group, Wilbraham’s Chloe Lawless won the age 11 group while Wilbraham’s Payton Beadling won the age 13 group. 

On the boys side Athol’s Austin Lyesiuk won the age nine group, Athol’s Elijah Smith won the age 10 group, South Deerfield’s Brady Wood won the age 11 group, Greenfield’s Anthony Bergstrom won the age 12 group, Greenfield’s Grayson Thomas won the age 13 group while Athol’s Clayde Thompson won the age 14 group. 

Those winners will compete at states, which is scheduled for Apr. 4 in Holliston. 

Berkshire Highland Pentathlon

Registration is underway for the 2024 Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon.

The race, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at Berkshire East, is five events: a 4.5 mile run, an 18 mile bicycle road ride, a two mile river paddle, a two mile adventure run and climb up, ski down leg. Bravehearts can do the entire course solo while registration is also open for those who want to compete in teams of 2-5 people. 

Discounted registration ends on March 17 while discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19 go until the day of the race. 

There will raffle prizes for the winners in each category. Online registration is available at BikeReg.com. Volunteers are needed. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry in Charlemont.
