Bulletin Board: Post 81 holding tryouts in May

The Post 81 American Legion baseball team, which features both a senior and junior squad, will be holding registration and tryouts on May 6, 7 and 13, all taking place at 1 p.m. at Vets Field in Greenfield. 

The senior team is for those who are 19 and under by Dec. 31, 2023 while the juniors must be 17 and under by Dec. 31, 2023. Players from all Franklin County schools are eligible to try out, and those from previous Post 81 teams must still try out to be eligible. Players are asked to bring a glove, cleats and their original birth certificate.

Rancourt wins meet at Merrimack

Greenfield High School alum Tess Rancourt took home a first place finish and set a school record at Merrimack on Thursday at the Holy Thursday Meet at Duane Stadium in North Andover last week.

Rancourt, competing in the shot put, finished with the top toss of 41 feet, three inches, just under four inches more than the second place finisher. The toss was the top mark ever for a Merrimack woman, besting the mark of 41-2.25 set by Sarah Barnett in 2016. 

Bowling

Jamie Pfisterer and John Herron rolled the high single (112) and triple (333) in Sunday Scotch Doubles at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley last week. 

Cindy Clark had the women’s high single (109) and triple (282) while Kyle Leger had the men’s high single (122) and John Rodgers had the men’s high triple (317) in the Monday Mixed League. In the Wednesday Mixed League Karen Herzog rolled the women’s high single (116) and triple (282) while Erich Price had the men’s high single (116) and triple (317). 

In the Thursday Mixed Social Rachel Dodge had the women’s high single (107), Colleen Barrows tallied the women’s high triple (305) while Nick Brown had the men’s high single (128) and triple (327).

Here at the Deerfield Academy results from Saturday: girls lacrosse beat Middlesex, 10-9, girls water polo beat Andover, 12-3, but lost to Greenwich, 17-11, girls tennis lost to Groton, 8-1, softball beat Stoneleigh-Burnham, 14-2, baseball beat Cushing, 9-0, golf lost to Exeter, 7-3, and ultimate beat Eaglebrook, 15-2.
