Bulletin Board: Myers tosses 17K no-hitter for Dusters

Holly Myers struck out 17 in a no-hitter as Diamond Dusters beat Crocker Communications, 5-0, in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League Ponytail Division game Wednesday night at Murphy Park in Greenfield.

Anne Kolodziej doubled and drove in three runs for the Dusters, while Madison Liimatainen tripled and plated a pair of runs.

Mackenzie Paulin struck out 16 in six innings in the tough-luck loss.

• In Lil Nippers action Wednesday, Emmalyn Nash was 3-for-3 and Lundgren Honda defeated Freedom Credit Union, 8-3, at Murphy Park.

Sandra Johnson totaled two hits for Lundgren.

Freedom’s Charlee Vera went 3-for-3 and Shylan Luippold was 2-for-2.

TCL

Winning pitcher Sofia Holden fanned nine batters in three innings and belted a grand-slam home run and a double for five RBIs to lead Bernardston Blaze over Winchendon, N.H., 20-3, in a Tri-County League girls’ softball game played Tuesday night and reported late.

Katie Trenholm also pitched for the Blaze, working one inning, striking out two and belting a grand slam and a double.

Allison Clary belted a three-run double and Amelia Keeler added two singles and a RBI, while Nina Holden and Ava Fortin ripped RBI singles.

Adult softball

Greenfield Co-Rec

Ainslee Penfield was 4-for-4 with two doubles, and R.G. Penfield Construction edged The Spirit Shoppe, 13-10, in a Greenfield Adult Co-Rec League softball game Wednesday night at Green River Park.

Jeremy Benz had three hits, including a home run, for Penfield, while Eddie Morley also had three hits and a home run.

Mike Laude was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Molly Wickline also had three hits in the loss.

• Elsewhere, Jake Coburn’s 4-for-4 night propelled Beck’s Auto to a 13-11 win over Mike’s Bears at Greenfield Middle School.

Coburn had two doubles and three RBI for Beck’s, which also received three hits from Jon Rosario and Kelly Sadler. Kelsey Malloy roped a pair of hits in the win.

Mike’s Bears were paced by Trevor Mankowsky’s three hits, including a double.

• In other action, Chris Taggert had four hits and five RBIs as the Hangar beat Riff’s North, 19-15, at Green River Field.

Mike Cole finished with five hits in the win, Joe Guidaboni and Kelsey Cadran each had four hits, and Leanne Guidaboni had three hits.

Brian Sicard slugged a pair of home runs and finished with four hits for Riff’s, while Tim Belanger, Morgan Orrell and Dylan Farrick each had four hits.

Youth baseball

Luca Siano hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to drive in what wound up being the game-winning run and Maniatty’s beat Smitty’s Pub, 6-5, in a Greenfield Minor League Major Division baseball game Wednesday at Lunt Field in Greenfield.

Cam Burnett earned the win in relief and finished with two doubles and four RBIs. Devin Dubee and Brodie Gagne each had two hits. Gagne struck out six in a no-decision, Jackson Petrin singled, and Hannah Gilbert played well defensively.

Michael Pierce struck out six in three innings of work for Smitty’s and also doubled. George Mercorelli had two hits, while Hugh Hart and Daniel Pena-Chadee each had one hit.

Mohawk Youth

Dougie Wilcox and Isaac Baranoski each had hits, and Baranoski stole home twice to help Ashfield to a 5-3 win over Charlemont in a Mohawk Youth Baseball League Majors Division contest Wednesday night.

Christian Eastman pitched five strong innings in the loss for Ashfield.

• In Minors action, Levi Clark struck out five batters to help Ashfield past Charlemont, 12-7.

Skyler Steele was 3-for-3 with two RBI in the win for Ashfield, while Cyrus Cranston was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Ezekiel Mirin had an RBI and pitched well for Charlemont, which received a stellar catching effort from Natalie Lanoue.

• Elsewhere, Jackson Morey totaled four hits with two RBI and the Buckland-Shelburne Padres defeated Rowe, 19-2.

Jazzy Hayes had three hits and an RBI, while Connor Herzig drove in three runs and Shawn Beckwith pitched well.

Rowe’s Camden Cousineau had a hit and played strong defensive at catcher. Wyatt Sisum and Seth Lively also paced the defensive effort.

Golf

Thomas Ladies

MaryEllen Fydenkevez took top point quota honors at plus-8, leading the way at Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club’s Ladies League in Turners Falls.

Marilyn Kostanski (plus-6) and Sally Malloy (plus-5) took second and third.

Jane Smith was closest to the pin at 15 feet, 9 inches, and Dorothy Adams and Kostanski tied for fewest putts of the round with 16.

K of C

Steve Ciechomski and Rod Herzig both finished with a plus-7 point quota to win the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday.

Bruce MacConnell and Ray Zukowski tied for third place at plus-4.

Chet Czernich was closest to the pin on No. 7 at 15 feet, 7 inches, and Ron Lenois was closest on No. 9 at 4-1.

Preps

Deerfield results

It was a strong start to the postseason for the Deerfield Academy girls’ water polo team Wednesday. The Big Green defeated Phillips Andover Academy, 7-5, to advance to the New England semifinals set for Saturday.

• In other DA action on Wednesday, the softball team clinched a postseason berth with a 14-3 win over Loomis Chaffee on the road.

• Elsewhere, the lacrosse teams swept home games. The boys’ team upset Salisbury School, 9-6, and the girls’ team extended its winning streak to 11 games and matched the program record of 11 wins (set in 2008) with a 16-2 thumping of Berkshire School.

• Also, the Big Green fell to Avon Old Farms, 11-2.

Tumbling Tigers

The Greenfield YMCA Tumbling Tigers competed in the 2018 YMCA Northeast Regional Gymnastics Championships held in Readville, Maine, over the weekend. Thirty-eight YMCA teams from all over the region competed in the three-day event.

Level 2/8yrs: Virginia Krezmien placed in the top 10 on bars, beam, floor, and All-Around. 11yrs+: Anna Carlson-Belanger placed 4th on floor (8.7), 5th on vault (8.5), beam (9.0), 6th on bars, 6th All-Around.

Xcel Silver/10-11yrs: Mila Frantz took 3rd on bars (9.025), placed in the top 10 on vault, beam, floor, All Around. 13yrs+: Abby Shaw placed 7th on bars.

Level 3/9yrsA: Seneca Smith tied for 5th on floor (9.05), top 10 on beam and All-Around. Age 10yrsB: Ava Garappolo tied for 4th on vault (9.4), beam (8.75). Age 11yrsB: Paloma Cruz tied for 6th on vault (9.05), top 10 on floor.

Xcel Gold/Age 12yrs: Aiden Wall tied for 6th on floor (9.2).

Xcel Platinum/Age 11-13yrs: Grayson Bowse placed 2nd on vault (9.25), 3rd on floor (9.1), 4th on beam (9.0), All-Around (35.85), top 10 on bars.

Level 7/Age 10-12yrs: Addie Broady placed in the top 10 on vault, bars, beam, floor, and All-Around.

Xcel Diamond/Age 14-17yrs: Emily Braverman placed 3rd on vault (8.65), 4th on floor (8.5), 5th on bars, beam, All-Around.

Level 8/Age 13-15yrs: Zenani Himlin-Mayekiso placed 3rd on vault (8.725), 10th All Around. Kendall Fox placed 9th on floor, 10th on vault.
