Bulletin Board: Mahar quartet sets school relay record

The Mahar Regional School 4x800 relay team of Sebastian Shaw, Hugo Frost, Aidan DiDonato and Ash Shaw set a new school record on Saturday at Winterfest in Boston.

Ash Shaw also broke his own record in the 600 meters, placing fifth overall out of 67 runners.

Sophomore Kamryn Reilly took 12th out of 125 runners in the 55-meter dash, while Hugo Frost took seventh in the long jump out of 48 competitors and Nick Sharp finished fourth in the shot put in a field of 95.

Greenfield JV hockey

Kyle Barnes scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway with just 1 minute, 10 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Greenfield High School junior varsity hockey team to a 3-2 win over Easthampton High School in action Sunday at Smead Arena in Springfield.

Adam Savoy got the scoring started midway through the first period with an unassisted goal. Easthampton tallied twice in a row from there, taking a 2-1 lead over the Green Wave.

Martin Given tied the game with an assist from Matt Wilhite, and Barnes tallied the winner with a feed from Savoy for the 3-2 victory.

Jordyn LaVallee recorded 23 saves in the Greenfield net to earn the win.

Youth basketball

Pioneer Suburban beats Turners

Jayden Fox poured in 26 points, including 22 in the first half, and Pioneer doubled up Turners Falls, 62-31, in a 7th and 8th grade Suburban League boys’ basketball game Sunday in Northfield.

Pioneer, which led 36-15 at halftime, also received 11 points from Jaylen McGraw and 7 points from Ryan Potter.

Brenden Driscoll finished in double figures with 10 points for Turners, while Jacob Lavin tossed in 6 points.
