SOUTH DEERFIELD — Adopt-A-Family of Franklin County has been providing holiday gifts for families in need for more than 40 years, but with two weeks to go and 20 families left to serve, the program is in need of donations.

“We’ll be happy to have financial donations or people to sponsor these 20 families, we don’t want them to not be covered and not have the families have anything to open on Christmas morning,” organizer Libby Kolasinski said.

Local residents in need are referred to Adopt-A-Family by 11 area agencies, who send the families’ wish lists to the program. Families are then matched with sponsors, who purchase one fun gift and one necessity for each family member. Families will pick up their gifts, as well as food for Christmas day, at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Deerfield on Dec. 15.

“The people might not have anything if people don’t come forward with cash donations or as sponsors,” Kolasinski said.

The program serves more than 200 families each year.

Those interested in making a financial donation can mail checks made out to Adopt-A-Family of Franklin County to Libby Kolasinski, 140 Russell St., Sunderland, MA, 01375.
