Sam Connors tossed a gem, and the Mahar baseball team avenged a loss to Smith Vocational earlier this season with a 1-0 win in an independent contest on Tuesday in Orange.

Connors went all seven innings, striking out 10 while scattering six hits and two walks for Mahar. The Sens were no-hit by the Vikings when the teams met in Northampton earlier in the season.

David Vitello scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth inning off a base hit from Jayden Delgado. Connors and Delgado had the only hits for Mahar, which improved to 4-3 thanks to their second win in a row.

“Huge win for us,” Senators coach Dan Guertin said. “We got seven strong innings from Sam and Delgado had a huge two-out hit to drive in our only run. This is our second straight game where we were awesome on defense.”

Hopkins 10, Greenfield 9 — The Green Wave held a 9-8 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Hawks refused to go away.

Alex West singled in Cooper Beckwith to tie the game before an error allowed the game-winning run to come across, as Hopkins pulled off a Hampshire League West triumph at Vets Field.

The game was moved from Hadley to Greenfield due to field conditions.

Hopkins scored four runs in the first inning but the Green Wave battled back to regain the lead.
